Oh, no, the Government won’t do it. The Sheriff won’t be knocking. That would violate the Constitution. We would never do that.
We’ll pass a law requiring firearms owners to be financially responsible for misuse of the firearm. The law would require a liability insurance policy, same as we require for automobiles. The policies will be issued by private insurance companies so if anybody demands an annual inspection to ensure you are complying with the terms of the policy, it will be a private entity doing it, not the government. No Constitutional problem at all.
And if you refuse the private insurance company’s inspection, they’ll be obligated to report it to the Sheriff who will then have probable cause to seek a search warrant for firearms possessed without financial liability insurance. THEN the Sheriff will come knocking, with a warrant, all in strict compliance with the Fourth Amendment.
See, we’re totally not coming for your guns. Until we are when it’s your own fault. So there’s no problem.
