“You Waffle!”

Gosh, my Democrat friends.  I apologize.

You were right.  Joe Wilson was wrong when he called the President a “liar” during his health-care pep rally two weeks ago.

Obama wasn’t lying.  He was pelting us with weasel words:

“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.

Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

In other words; he won’t be giving healthcare to “illegals”, because anyone who can get across the Rio Grande or the St. Lawrence will be legal.

Republicans said that amounts to an amnesty, calling it a backdoor effort to make sure current illegal immigrants get health care.

“It is ironic that the president told the American people that illegal immigrants should not be covered by the health care bill, but now just days later he’s talking about letting them in the back door,” said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee.

So on behalf of all Republicans, I apologize.

The President isn’t a “liar”.  He’s a word-game-playing weasel.

  1. Another “switcharoo” to watch for is President Obama saying that in a public plan “no taxpayer money will be used to pay for abortions. All the so0called “public plans” have means tested premiums. President Obama didn’t say anything about money from this source being used to pay for abortions.

    Classic “Chomsky”.

  2. Mitch, perhaps we should update the quote to the other master of weasel wording: “It all depends on what the meaning of the word illegal is.”

  3. Krauthammer nailed it.

“Obama doesn’t lie. He implies, he misdirects, he misleads — so fluidly and incessantly that he risks transmuting eloquence into mere slickness. “

The 1996 Act prohibits illegals from getting benefits, and it appears to work. If you look at the legal actions taken in dealing with proven illegal aliens (as opposed to speculating who is and who isn’t) there are a LOT of deportation and criminal proceedings against illegals who try to fake citizenship to get employment. But practically zilch faking documents or falsely claiming citizenship to get benefits like welfare or medical care.

Likewise there is already effective legislation in place to prevent the health care funding proposed being used for abortions.

There is absolutely NO indication that Obama is going to find a way to provide amnesty to illegal aliens, that he wants to or that he intends to, nor is it reasonable to believe he would be able to find support to do so.

To quote Judge Clay Land in his court decision ruling against birther lawyer Orly Taitz, unlike Alice in Wonderland, saying it doesn’t make it so. The Republicans SAYING this is going to happen doesn’t make it so either, and it goes in the face of objective evidence to the contrary.

But hey, if you have either actual documentation that there are proposals to fund abortions, or to grant health care to illegals, or to provide amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens, I’d be happy to see it. If not……this is weak, and not very persuasive argumentation on the part of the GOP.

  5. Forgot to ask, althoug it is off topic it is blog-specific: I looked for the usual links to ‘the Patriot’ to watch the video feed. There was no information here, unlike there usually is, for the radio show! Ended up listening to it, audio only, through the Patriot site, but was disappointed not to see anything here.

I’ve gotten used to looking at what’s on your schedule each weekend! With those extra hours you’ve been getting in, it’s the best way to keep track of when you are on the air.

You have a duty to your fans, Mitch! I can’t think of another weekend where you haven’t put that info up on SitD.

  6. Dog, can you can show me where the law says gays are allowed to serve in the military? No, in fact the law explicitly says gays are prohibited from serving in the military.

BUT — the law also says the military is prohibited from asking whether a person is gay. So as long as a gay person has sense enough to keep his mouth shut, he continues to serve.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was built into the Democrat’s plan until Joe Wilson called out Obama on it. Illegals are explicitly prohibited from receiving coverage but as long as the illegal knows enough to shut up, they get it.

    Weasel words.
